[ If he was relieved before, it practically doubles at this. ]
That's good then, I think. Especially the part about where the interviewer let you go since that in itself is the best news of all. We'll have to see whether they want to talk to Ciri at some point.
[ He's hanging onto optimism here for Jesper's sake and hoping this means the Free Cities isn't just waiting for the right moment instead. It's possible, but there's no one knows that better than Jesper. No need to repeat it. Better to focus on what's at least here and now. ]
I'm relieved you're alright and still out here with us. Are you alright with how it went?
I told her that where I'm from my kind are killed and I've felt unsafe here due to the anti-Thorne and magic sentiment. That seemed to make her sympathetic and reassuring that I'm not in danger here from it, and she said she'd keep it quiet. But that if I volunteered for something like that again I have to tell them, and if I wanted to work with them, they'd have a place for me.
Shifting some blame onto Thorne is rather smart, especially since it's true. I've never seen somewhere as opposed to magic as Cadens and it's never made sense to me.
[ A moment of consideration, then - ]
I'm glad they seem to have left things there for time being. I don't doubt they'll want you to assist at some point, but if they mean it about you having the option to volunteer then that's a good thing. And you're alright enough with that too? Or as you can be, both of which are an assumption on my part.
[ So much for not continue to worry, even if Claude means that to be brief. ]
As much as I can be, yeah. Magic isn't illegal here so I figured there's not actually anything they can do about it. I didn't break any laws. I let Ciri know what happened so she's prepared, I assume they'll come for her just to wrap it up.
You did well thinking that through since I can't see how they could argue with any of that. Hopefully whatever conversation they want to have with Ciri will be brief, and we'll have to see if anything comes of any of it.
If something does, though, I meant what I said before. I'll be there with you for it.
Thanks, Claude. The relief for me is she didn't ask for specifics about how I did it. For now all they know is that I can maybe make a bridge out of trees. The less they know about the actual how, the better. So I remain a man of mystery!
That's even better since there's nothing specific that can come back on you without you providing more details. The less they know is better and I don't think Ciri will be likely to tell them anything besides what we've agreed on, which hopefully means no issues for anyone.
And as what's the best bonus of all, you do remain rather enigmatic. Everything's better with a little mystery involved on any given day if you ask me, and spiting the government's no exception. Best time of all for it, really.
I gave Ciri a head's up about everything so she knows what they are aware of at this point. I'll see if Gids heard anything from them, just to be sure we're all covered.
In thanks for all of this ... I'm going to make you something special. The very thing I don't want them to know about. I'll give you the details later, but if you have a favorite shirt, you should bring it by some time.
[ AKA, Claude is about to be let into the corecloth club. ]
All of us being on the same page should hopefully help with the interviewer since that'll mean less questions in the future with any luck if there's nothing for them to follow up on. I'm hoping that when they told me they would follow up they meant just with you and it goes nowhere else.
[ The last part he has to think about for a second, mostly because asking about a favorite shirt doesn't immediately click right away. Then - ]
I can definitely do that. But if we're talking about something like what you wore on the quest, I think I might need some lessons first since what I know about knives isn't gonna cut it there.
No, no, the knife armor is only for me, other people wouldn't be able to use it. It's what was under it. It's called corecloth, it's bulletproof clothes. Looks like normal clothes but it's fireproof and projectiles can't get through it.
I AM SO SORRY i had this marked as replied when i hadn't, my apologies!!
Ah, that makes more sense though I wouldn't have said no to the knives either considering I still think about how impressive that way. That said, I'm certainly not turning down any other gifts either.
Fireproof and projectile proof for some added armor is certainly more than worth it after, ah, let's say... some interesting escapades I've had in the desert lately. Of my own doing, that is, so having something else as backup would be great. But more importantly: thanks, Jesper. I appreciate you thinking of me.
There are a few others who have them here, I usually take their favorite shirts or what have you and upgrade them. It's not heavy because it is essentially magic although people back home would be furious if they heard me call it that.
[ In terms of it being different than magic, something he hadn't understood at first but became clear enough with those knives zipping through the air unlike any projectile he'd ever seen before. Claude contemplates that for a moment, and then - ]
I'm positive I have a shirt that'd work well. I'll stop by whenever works best for you then, and even if it's a gift I'll bring a drink for you along with it.
